The Alberta Expropriation Association

The objects of the society are:

(1) to assist in the education of all individuals involved in the expropriation and surface rights processes in Alberta through the mutual exchange of philosophies and ideas;

(2) to enhance the standards of advocacy in the expropriation and surface rights processes by ensuring that lawyers, appraisers, and other experts are well informed and equipped to deal with the Expropriation Act, R.S.A. 1980, Chapter E-16 as amended, the Surface Rights Act, S.A. 1983, Chapter S-27.1 as amended, other relevant legislation, principles of appraisal and compensation, and practice and procedure before the Alberta Land Compensation Board and the Alberta Surface Rights Board;

(3) to consider the Expropriation Act, the Surface Rights Act and other relevant statutes and regulations with a view to making representations and recommendations to the provincial legislature with respect to amendments to such statutes and the administration of the expropriation and surface rights processes;

(4) to promote fellowship, cooperation and understanding among the legal, appraisal and other professions involved in the expropriation and surface rights processes;

(5) to promote public understanding of the principles and problems related to the expropriation of land and the acquisition of surface rights;

(6) in pursuing the foregoing objectives, to hold or sponsor an annual seminar for professionals and other persons involved in the expropriation and surface rights processes, and to assist in the publication of professional papers on expropriation and surface rights matters;
